Revenue from higher taxes at the top

Some lawmakers are interested in raising taxes on the highest-earning or richest households. There are many different policy levers for accomplishing this goal—for example, increasing capital gains tax rates, or raising the corporate income tax rate. But these levers can interact in sometimes underappreciated ways, such that the revenue score for a package combining multiple policies might differ from the sum of its standalone revenue scores.

This interactive tool is designed to let users explore how different top-tax policy levers interact with one another. Users can build their own reform package and examine the revenue and distributional implications of the package as a whole, not just of the individual pieces.

This tool complements the full Budget Lab report on the revenue potential from taxes at the top.
